IN AUTOCAD WE USE MOSTLY ALL CAPS (UPPERCASE) FOR TEXT FOR READABILITY AND NOT THAT WE ARE YELLING OR SHOUTING IN TEXT. WE SIMPLY FORGET TO CHANGE OUR KEYBOARD CAPLOCK.
"Shaan, please stop yelling in uppercase text…"
Oh sorry about that.
See that is the problem that I will show you how to prevent.
Sometimes when you exit AutoCAD you still have the CAPS lock on and then go to your email or instant messaging and appear to be shouting, when you are not. Uppercase text typically in email is considered the equivalent of shouting or yelling. You might think that people would notice their uppercase still on, but after hours of working in AutoCAD I think you are honestly text case blind or in a trance.
So, how do I turn on Uppercase text in AutoCAD? I want to type in all caps in AutoCAD only.
There is an "AutoCAPS" option in the Ribbon Text Editor, in the Tools panel. Start the text command or double click some text to edit, and expand the Tools panel to expose the AutoCAPS option.

Now with AutoCAPS enabled your text will be on in AutoCAD only and you wont have to remember to use your keyboard option and inadvertently end up shouting in email to someone. Note the AutoCAPS is only for MTEXT not DTEXT (thanks Ray.)
This common question was identified and a solution sent to me from my Autodesk colleague and good friend Cliff Young of the AutoCAD Test Development team. The AutoCAD Test Development team receives a great deal of bug reports and feedback and some are common and we can point out solutions to help you such as this one. Thank you Cliff!

This tip ONLY works when using MTEXT. It does NOT work with single line text, DTEXT and the like. Unfortunately, 99% of our text work is single line entities. Nerts..
Thanks Ray for pointing that out. Yes MTEXT’ers get this AutoCAD feature, you text on a budget single line text users will have to use the keyboards CAPLOCK or right-click change case, or I will just continue to get emails in all CAPS FROM YOU. 😉

NO PROBLEM, I’LL BRING IT UP AT AU in their wishlist thing or in the “Future Of Autocad” class I’m attending.
PERFECT IDEA!
Is uppercase really more readable?
IS UPPERCASE REALLY MORE READABLE?
I know it is common but wonder if that is more convention than reality. I don’t know, seems even the experts vary in their view, but found this post on how we ‘see’ text interesting:
http://blog.typekit.com/2013/08/14/understanding-letters/
The theory behind upper/lower vs. UPPER came up when they redesigned the British Road signs after WW2. People find it harder to make out a word (city, destination, etc) with only upper case. Using upper/lower made it easier because people recognized the SHAPE of the word. “Lincolnshire” is easier to pick up on a road sign than “LINCOLNSHIRE”. The patterns of the letters in mixed case words are easier to comprehend without having to take too much time away from concentrating on driving. And that concludes your “Useless factoid of The Day”.
Thanks for the tip!
I actually do not use all CAP text in AutoCAD.
I am using AutoCAD 2006? Does it work in AutoCAD 2006?
thanks
You can use AutoCAPS in AutoCAD 2006.
RAY,
THANK YOU FOR SHARING.
