AutoCAD Troubleshooting Tip Getting Naked

When chasing/researching a problem with AutoCAD, you want to rule everything else out to make sure it is AutoCAD especially with all the customization methods and file types that can cloud the real source of the issue.

You accomplish this state of AutoCAD being "naked" by making sure that you have no network connected if possible even the client, no profiles, no customization, no 3rd party AutoCAD applications, clean drawing file from scratch with no blocks or Xrefs, and nothing else running on the desktop not even the seemingly harmless MP3 player or browser. Also reset to a default OOTB "Out of the Box" profile. Now with most of the smoke out of the way you can see if the problem still occurs from scratch steps and the possible solution.

1.Copy opened file or part of file to another opened file can not copyed.
2.Close a program and on step 1 opened file it becomes fatal error (0x6c04c784 Exception at 6206f710h)

Ruben,
I would need more details and hopefully you sent a CER report when it crashed so we can research the issue. I looked in our database and do not see this error found. Is it a new file from scratch? What product?

I have just started using AutoCAD 2007 & have lost all my tool bars after just using it once properly! Also, my cursor is massive, & despite checking the cursor size in Dynamic Input, it’s made no difference, so what’s up? I need to get back to square 1, but how? Does it have a “last good state” setting like Windows XP?

Morning,
I’m a ACAD 2005 user. I have changed my OS from XP to VISTA, but now I can’t run my ACAD. Is there any “fixing” that I can make for using the 2005 with VISTA?
Thanks a lot!
Sebas

Sebas,
AutoCAD 2005 was not designed or supported on Vista. This is because AutoCAD 2005 was released long before Windows Vista and there are some key things that changed in the OS that affect AutoCAD.
You could set Windows Vista to run AutoCAD 2005 in compatibility mode with Windows XP.

N. Turan,
I have not heard of this problem but it sounds like you have some serious display or sysem issues.
You should try a repair install, checking to make sure you are up to date on drivers, and your hardware and softwre environment are supported for AutoCAD 2007.

Shaan

I am working with AutoCAD LT 2009 while the rest of my office works with earlier versions. Layers that I create in 2009, when opened by an earlier version, have ‘@’ symbols at the end of their name. For example layer A-SEAT becomes A-SEAT@ when opened by someone else. This is wreaking havoc on our office standards – what can I do?

using 2005, I am attempting to open files that were converted from Pro-E to AutoCadusing a STP translator. the translated files appear as block reference that cannot be exploded or manipulated. Any attempt to explode the block cause it to disappear completely. Any suggestions?

I work in AutoCAD 2009. Every time I try to save down to an earlier version (2004 for example), my pc freezes up and I end up having to close CAD down. Others in my office can save fine. What is the problem and what can I do to solve it?

K. Franklin,
A few suggested questions for you to look into to assist in getting the problem resolved. I would see what is different in setup and software on the machine between your machine and the others that are not experiencing the issue. Look at when it started to narrow the focus. Does it only occur when you save to the network. Do you have all the latest service packs installed. Make sure it is not your drawings corrupted or a specific drawing. Do you have other utilities running or installed when this occurs? Try booting to safe mode and see if that works as that could rule out a graphics driver. Have you tried a repair installation in the Add Remove.
Sincerely,
