Most industries are investigating and/or implementing Digital Twins such as the Manufacturing industry. Think of the benefits to a machine or auto manufacturer to get data on how their designs perform in simulation or real life, and can update to performance tune them or improve the future designs.

So, while a 3D model or CAD drawing can be part of a digital twin, on their own, they don't make the cut.
