Position Overview

Autodesk seeks a skilled, versatile, and engaged individual with experience in manufacturing, digital fabrication, and team management to lead Autodesk’s Technology Center in San Francisco, formally known as the Pier 9 Workshop. The 35,000 sq./ft. waterfront Technology Center houses workshops for precision machining, additive manufacturing, large format 5-axis milling, robotics, electronics, laser and waterjet cutting.  These workshops support a resident community in a radically open innovation environment. 

The Autodesk Technology Center in San Francisco is one node within a network of four Technology Centers that are located throughout North America in San Francisco, Toronto and Boston, and in Birmingham, England in the UK. In our Autodesk Technology Centers, we collaborate with industry, academia, and entrepreneurial communities to speculate, validate, and test ideas about the future of design and making; inform our product and business strategy; and make stories that inspire our community. The Technology Center organization is situated within the Autodesk Research Organization and fosters a spectrum of research and demonstration from the highly speculative to immediately actionable solutions.

Each North American Technology Center supports a range of activities under specific thematic areas through an external residency program. In our Technology Center in Toronto we support applied research relating to the future of design and in Boston, our residents focus on areas relating to Architecture, Engineering, and Construction (AEC).

The Autodesk Technology Center in San Francisco is a hub for the exploration of the future of manufacturing. Focused on the concept of configurable micro-factories it offers a range of advanced manufacturing equipment, robotics, general shop facilities and workspaces to research and develop ideas that push the boundaries of manufacturing.

Through the Technology Center Residency program, the workshops in the SF Technology Center support the community with project assistance, material process consultation, machine trainings and operational guidance. Our SF workshop team consists of 6 Shop Specialists who maintain and lead our robotics, 3D printing, CNC, wood and metal fabrication operations. The Workshop Manager is the leader of this team, reporting directly to the Technology Centers Workshop Manager and works closely with each team member to guide and hone the operation of the San Francisco Technology Center workshop.”
