Last week in a post I mentioned I was running in the obstacle course race the Tough Mudder on the weekend. I have received a few emails to see if I survived the long challenging course, and how it was.
I had an amazing experience running the 12 mile course with 20 obstacles ranging from mud pits, culvert crawling, barbed wire, climbing walls, monkey bars, ice baths and 10,000 volt shocks from hanging electrical wires with my oldest son and his two friends. My youngest son was an EMT for the first obstacle and my daughter was my official photographer and each did a fantastic job. At the end of the course you got a refreshing beer that probably tastes much better due to the long hot athletic event. I am now officially hooked on these obstacle course races that are more of a challenge than your standard 5k mud runs.
They wouldn't let me do a flip from the top of this obstacle into a pool of disturbingly green water.
I love the mud and did a flip or cannonball in each of the mud pits on both mud mile obstacles. YOLO!
My son and I ran up the Everest obstacle unassisted and just for fun did it twice and took a bow to the crowd.
My son Jake was a volunteer EMT for Tough Mudder to take care of the injured who sprung leaks, tears, cuts, punctures, overheated, or broke parts of their bodies. He was very busy.
In the Electric Shock Therapy obstacle there were many wires with 10,000 volts and both me and my oldest son were captured being zapped in this photo by my daughter Katie. I call this photo "Father and Son BzzzzYOW!"
It was an amazing experience and to be able to keep up with 20 year olds, and to pass many of them on the course was also a great feeling and result of all the good hard dedicated training.
I am now considering running another Tough Mudder this time in Southern California near the end of October. If anyone has a spot on their team for that event or wants to do it with me and possibly my oldest son please let me know. I am also planning to run the Spartan Beast in 2015 so I am not going to stop my training. I plan to have a morning jog and gym workout every day at Autodesk University in December and invite those wanting to workout to please join me.
Nailed It!
Cheers,
Shaan
